J. Stephen Nix was raised in southern Arkansas on watermelon and the American Naturalism of Jack London. He earned his M.A. in Writing from Johns Hopkins University. His fiction and essays explore uncertainty, moral complexity, and difficult choices. They are informed by his experience as a practicing neuropathologist.
His works have appeared in The Examined Life, CLOSLER, and Medicine and Meaning, where “Feeding Animals” received the 2022 Mehta Fiction Award. He is currently seeking representation for his completed historical novel, Cat of the Purple Iris.
He lives and writes in Arkansas.
